COLERE: FUNCTIONAL DIVERSITY AND SCULPTURE

June - October, 2019

Colere. Cultura. Cultiu was the first exhibition I curated. It was hosted at the Celler Cooperatiu in Rubí, Barcelona, during the month of October of 2019. Although it was a commission by the Association of Sant Galderic to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fair of artists, artisans and farmers, my team wanted to take it a step further.

For this reason, we thought about the links between culture and agriculture, which share the root Colere, and how they shape the world we inhabit and our relationship with human and non-human others. I wanted to include the local farmers who worked at Font del Ferro, a community-based greenhouse that works for the professional inclusion of people with functional diversity, as makers and creators in the exhibition. After receiving an enthusiastic yes, I asked  Pep Borràs, a local sculptor who focuses on recycled assemblages, to collaborate with them. The process and the result are astonishing and can be checked out in the show catalogue, which also includes contribution from a transdisciplinary group of brilliant scholars who are women I admire and wanted to promote as powerful voices that differ from homogenic art writing.
